#134 Variable Oystercatcher - Torea-Pango

Haematopus unicolor
IUCN Redlist: Least Concern
Location: Orokawa Scenic Reserve, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand
Time: 1600 NZDT December 26, 2011

The variable oystercatcher, known in Maori as torea-pango, is one of three oystercatchers currently recognised from New Zealand, together with H. finschi, the South Island pied oystercatcher (SIPO) and H. chathamensis, the Chatham oystercatcher.

This was my only tetrapod from this visit to New Zealand, and my final species for 2011.

Next up: Australia
