Not easily distinguished from a downy woodpecker, the hairy woodpecker is larger, with a proportionately longer bill, and lacks dark bars on the outer tail feathers, clearly visible here.

I also want to note that I've now seen 0.1% of the tetrapods (give or take)

Formerly included in the species Troglodytes troglodytes, which was split into 3 in 2010: T. troglodytes in Eurasia, T. hiemalis in eastern North America and T. pacifius on the North American west coast.

I lured this one in with a recording of another singing, which provoked an energetic bout of singing all around me. Despite making itself so visible, it was still hard to get a good shot, as it moved so quickly.
